The ritual of burning a candle

Your Kyuka candle is more than a scent β€” it is a ritual worth celebrating properly. Look after it from the very first burn to enjoy the full experience and keep its beautiful vessel for years.

01

The first burn β€” the most important one

  • Let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the vessel. This is key to avoiding tunnelling.
  • Burn the candle for at least 1–2 hours, depending on its diameter.
02

A choice of wicks β€” a ritual your way

Wooden wick

Crackles softly like a miniature fireplace.

Cotton wick

A classic that gives a steady flame.

Both types need regular trimming β€” ideally with our wick trimmer.

03

Candle care

  • Before every burn: trim the wick to about 5 mm.
  • Putting it out: use a snuffer β€” it is safer and does not spoil the scent.
  • Never leave a candle unattended and do not burn it for more than 4 hours at a time.

How to save a tunnelling candle

If unburnt wax is left around the wick:

Give the candle more time β€” until the whole surface has melted.

You can wrap a strip of aluminium foil with an opening for the wick to spread the heat evenly (for 1–2 hours).

Candle burnt down? For us, it is only the beginning

Leave about 1 cm of wax β€” that is the safe limit. Then:

  1. Fill the vessel with hot water from the kettle and a drop of washing-up liquid.
  2. The wax will float to the surface β€” scoop it off or let it set and lift it out.
  3. Remove the metal wick base and rinse the vessel.
